AI implementation in Oil and Gas

Technology Review, January 21, 2021

Oil and gas companies are common victims of hackers, and, unfortunately, the number of attacks in the sphere is increasing every year. At the moment, companies need to manage security issues and perform constant monitoring with strong digital tools.

The biggest problem today is that not all companies in the field have the financial ability to use sophisticated AI programs to achieve this goal, however the issue of security is urgent for the field. IT and cybersecurity executives at these companies commented on how smart technologies are affecting cybersecurity issues in the oil and gas sector, here are some conclusions:

  • Companies are leveraging AI tools to simplify and automate workflows.
  • Cybersecurity should be at the head of all digital transformations, and complicated AI-based tools may help here a lot.
  • AI can help with optimization and security of networks by providing monitoring and visibility.

Generally speaking, if earlier smart technologies were used to perform some single specific tasks, now their use in the oil and gas industry has become ubiquitous.

Competition between AI and IT specialists gets harder

CIO News, January 17, 2021

At the moment, some specialists are concerned that smart technologies may take their place in the future. And starting from now, cybersecurity professionals are beginning to worry as well.

According to the new report from cloud security firm ‘Trend Micro’, smart technologies are going to replace humans in the sphere of cybersecurity by 2031. This trend is due to the fact that attacks are constantly becoming more complex, and in the fight against them, smarter technologies turn out to be more effective and faster. According to the report, even nowadays about 41% of IT specialists are concerned that AI is going to replace them by 2030.

“The seismic events of 2020 have created long lasting changes in work environments across the globe and opened up new avenues that cybercriminals can abuse. Cybersecurity will help enterprises, governments and ordinary users adapt safely to these new conditions in 2021,”  the report says.

Hedgehog is to protect your home network

CNet, January 14, 2021

What do you think about hedgehogs?Well, the hedgehog we’re going to talk about now is not a forest dweller, but an AI device built to protect the monitoring of your home network.

he Hedgehog was developed by a British startup to protect the network from hackers or insecure devices, which may potentially lead to cyberattacks. Being not just a simple firewall, it uses machine learning to track unusual behaviour and automatically cuts off access to your home network in case anything suspicious is detected.

You can change some parameters yourself as the Hedgehog can block and whitelist certain devices or connect to other gadgets.
