Facial recognition systems are becoming more resistant to attacks

SingPass facial verification gives access to 400 services

NBC News, October 12, 2020

In Singapore, face recognition systems have become an integral part of the life of citizens: with the help of a national digital identity program  called SingPass they will soon be able to access several hundred services. 4 million people will be able to access government services such as tax returns and public housing without having to remember passwords: all that is now needed for this is face verification.

The system was developed by iProov, a United Kingdom-based biometric authentication supplier, in collaboration  with Toppan Ecquaria, a Singapore-based digital government service platform provider. The developers claim that the technology has some special feature that can prevent hacks. The system is said to be able to stave off illegal login attempts performed with fake photographs, masks or deepfakes.

“A deepfaker can’t predict the color sequence to put onto their forgery of your face, so it prevents deepfakes, too. And of course real, live human faces reflect the colors differently from photos, screens or masks, so we spot those reliably, too,” explained Andrew Bud, iProov’s CEO and founder.

Another facial recognition technology can resist hacks

SHINE News, September 30, 2020

The facial recognition system introduced in Singapore is not the only one to be able to resist hacking. Mashang Consumer Finance Co Ltd presents its own facial recognition technology, which, according to the developers, has also proven to resist biometric fraud after passing an industry test in early 2019. The results the Bank Card Testing Center have demonstrated that the rate of real person pass and the prosthesis attack detection is 100%.

According to the Chongqing-based consumer credit company, this technology has already been implemented many times for online identity verification. The company is currently planning to expand the use of its system to smart retail, smart hotels and other organizations.
